Frequency Down

I'm Frank Hejl and this is my blog. Originally it was created to sort of resurrect my defunct radio show I did back in Texas for 3 years, but then I found out no one gave a shit! WEEEEEEEEE! So now it's basically me posting YouTube videos and artcles now and again. Stop by, enjoy and...whatever.

The Kids In The Hall!

It is my honest opinion that the The Kids In The Hall is probably the best sketch comedy show, ever.

So, it thrills me when I see this
Kids In The Hall Return!

Let's hope they go with an indie film company if they release another movie. Paramount screwed them pretty hard with Brain Candy (which is a movie I love, though).

Thanks to Vee for showing me this.

And for your enjoyment, a sketch from KITH!

Trick R' Treat

Talk all the shit you want, but I'm looking forward to this film.

How much you want to bet it'll be better than the Rob Zombie Halloween remake?

On that topic, is anyone else tired of "scary" movies these days? It's all gore and no suspense, plus they lack any eerie supernatural quality to them. There's a difference between being grossed out and creeped out. I enjoy the latter in my horror films. That's not to say gore doesn't have its place. It definitely does. But what most films in the horror genre lack today is that delicate balance. So wise up, horror films! Enough of this Saw bullshit.

Make no mistake, I am the new Andy Rooney.

Sonic Youth is Covered!

Not in biscotti from their recent Starbucks deal, but rather a slew of covers from some of your favorite and least favorite artists!

The blog "Copy,Right?" has posted some SY covers. Diamond Sea and Bull in the Heather are some of my favoirte SY songs of all time, and I have to say, I'm pretty pleased with how they're covered. Judge for yourself.

It's Sunday...and She's Lost Control

On a related note, I saw this band (Girls Against Boys) play a show this past Friday at Bowery Ballroom. They played their best album (in my opinion), Venus Luxure No.1 Baby, in its entirety, plus some other fan favorites. It was really great. I've seen them a handful of times and this was the best I had seen them. Too bad it was kind of a once in a blue moon type thing.

Videos just lack...feathers

These days videos just lack long flowing pretty blonde hair on its artist, ghost indians handing out feathers and bands that just take you away from your shitty abusive dad.
Well, I say...
Take me there, Nelson. Take me far far away!

You know, the dad has a point. The freeloader's 18 without a job and hallucinates about Nelson. Get it together, Son!

Cake Like

Fans of The State, Viva Variety and Reno 911 will recognize Kerri Kenney in this band. I really liked them, but they didn't get to do much. Still they made a cool video which was directed by fellow State member David Wain (who also directed Wet Hot American Summer and the upcoming movie The Ten) and even has appearances from a couple of State members.

Ice Cream Creatures

Ice Cream Creatures is signed to Papergoose Records, an Austin-based label. They are an experimental electronic group. I'm in love with their song, Little Machine. If you like it too, check out some of their other mp3s here.

MST3K is Back!!! Sort of...

God bless Shout Factory (the best DVD company around)!

Here's the description of The Film Crew:
Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett—three of the brilliantly insane minds behind the cult classic TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000—finally reunite to unleash their warped sense of humor on the cinema of yesteryear as The Film Crew. Charged with the task of giving all movies their own commentary tracks, the Film Crew valiantly steps forward to tackle the best of the worst, starting with Hollywood After Dark, which was chosen as the first release by MST fans in an online contest.

The Whitest Kids U' Know Moves to IFC

Sketch group/show The Whitest Kids U' Know has moved to IFC.

Here's what they had to say in a recent Myspace bulletin:
"The next season of ‘The Whitest Kids U’ Know’ is going to be on the IFC channel!! We are really excited about this for a bunch of reasons!
First: If you get the FUSE network - odds are you get IFC. So everyone who already watches the show, still can!
Second: The second season will be COMPLETELY UNCENSORED! No more bleeps or blurs!
And Third: There will be no commercial breaks! Which means the shows will actually be longer!"

For those who have never seen The Whitest Kids U' Know, here's one of my favorite sketches from the show.

You can Take the Girl outta Tejas.

I have loved this song ever since I was ...well...I guess around 6 or something....but yeah....I have started to listen to her again....and I totally know what she is talking about now...before it was entertainment....and now all I want to do is give that bitch a high five....drink a beer...and ever so lovingly say " Hell Yeah "

Another Patton Oswalt Post

The A.V. Club has a really great interview with Patton Oswalt up.
Once you read you'll realize why I'm so perversely in love with the man.

Since you'll only read or hear about it a million times...

So, pretty much the main reason I wanted to see Transformers was to see this badass trailer that everyone was talking about that plays before the movie. There's all this secrecy around this trailer that only reveals that it's produced by J.J. Abrams and its release date.

Thankfully I can save my $12 (yes, movies are expensive here)because the trailer is now online.
Vague Goodness Here

Some speculate that it's a Voltron movie, while others speculate it's some sort of big scale monster movie all shot on handicam.

What do I think it is?

Well, let's just say I'm hoping it has something to do with this...

Fingers crossed!

Allow Me to Introduce Myself

Hey everyone! My name's John and I come to you from Dallas, TX (until I move to Norman, OK in a month)This is my first time as a contributor to the Frequency Down blog. I will be posting about anything and everything concerning music that I find noteworthy. Basically, whatever I like I will share on here. As of right now, we're still finding a place to upload mp3s to so we can post them, but until then I will try to find another way to post mp3s. On to the music...

Unitl I have freedom to post mp3s from my collection, I'm just going to post a variety of songs I like. Eventually I will make themed posts.

Daedelus - Purged Lips Reply

One of my favorite electronic groups, Daedelus uses a variety of samples to craft their songs. If you're a fan of Daedelus, you'll also love Cornelius.

Mom - Green Echo

Electronic disection of acoustic instrumentation. Straight out of Denton, TX (home to the one and only Frank Hejl) Mom frequents many DFW venues, opening up for acts like Menomena and The Album Leaf. They signed to CJ Davis' fairly young label, Pancakes For Mattie.

That's all for now. More to come!

Labels:

Dueces.

Patton Oswalt- Werewolves and Lollipops

One of the best standup comedians working today is Patton Oswalt. Do yourself a favor and see this man perform live. I know standup gets a bad reputation because of the commercially successful standup comedians that tell the worst and unimaginitave jokes ever, but there are a ton of great standup comedians working today who just do brilliant material and are 100 times funnier than anyone you'll see headlining a big comedy venue or concert arena.

Patton has a new cd coming out on Sub Pop called Werewolves and Lollipops which comes out on July 10th.

The blog You Ain't No Picasso posted an MP3 from the upcoming album, which you can find at their blog here
